Wedding season is upon us! Some of you have been receiving invitations and filling up your summer Saturdays quickly and others of you are planning away for your big day! For you brides out there, here are some easy ways to ensure your guests enjoy the evening!
Let your guests know what they are getting into!
On the invitation let your guests know what type of food will be provided at the reception and what attire is appropriate (this goes for any wedding, not just summer weddings). You don’t have to put a menu on your invitation but if you are only providing light appetizers then your guests may want to consider eating ahead of time. If you are providing a full seated meal, that’s good to know too. After all, you are paying per person so you want to make sure food doesn’t go to waste. Also, a chalkboard with a rough itinerary upon entering the ceremony or reception is a nice touch and always helpful to let guests know when they will be eating, when you are doing your first dance or when you are cutting the cake so they don’t miss the highlights!
Don’t make your guests wait too long without feeding them!
It is of the utmost importance that you get those perfect pictures on your big day but if you are going to be a while post-ceremony before joining your guests, make sure that they have some light appetizers and drinks available until you join them for dinner. This will keep them happy and entertained until they can see your big debut as Mr. and Mrs.!
Make sure they are comfortable in the weather!
Summers are typically hot and humid, especially in the south! If you are tenting outdoors, explore the option of fans or walls on your tent with full AC. If you are indoors, make sure the AC is cranked up before guests start arriving. Once your reception hall is full of people drinking and dancing, it can get hot quick! Also, flip flops are ALWAYS a hit at summer weddings. Stock up on some inexpensive flip flops and put them in a basket as guests enter the reception, all the gals will appreciate it by the end of the night, plus, who doesn’t love a good wedding favor!?
Treat them!
Take advantage of the hot weather and treat your guests to ice cream, popsicles, refreshing signature cocktails or fruit infused water! This will keep them cooled off and also provide them with an experience they will remember your wedding by. In addition, don’t forget to add some summer flair to your dinner fare!
Let them be entertained!
Whether it’s a DJ or band, let your guests be entertained! Start the music early in the night and create a fun vibe so guests will dance the night away with you and not leave as soon as they get to say hello you and your groom.
Happy Planning!
