ALWAYS meet with potential wedding photographers before booking them for your wedding day. It is important to know the following things about the person who is going to capture the most important day of your life:
1. What is their personality like?
Do your personalities match? It is important that you both see eye to eye with your wedding photographer and communicate well so that the day of your wedding will go smoothly. Also, you will more than likely do your engagement pictures, wedding pictures and even bridal portraits with the same photographer so you are going to spend a good deal of time with this person in an intimate setting and it’s important that your personalities mesh.
2. How many shooters will they provide?
For me, 2 shooters is a must! With some photographers the number of shooters varies by package but always make sure you have two photographers the day of your wedding. This is crucial since you get one chance to capture the most important day of your life. You will want various perspectives of pictures and two photographers can catch the bride and bridesmaids as well as groom and groomsmen getting ready separately during the day also during the reception one photographer can be capturing you and your bride/groom and the other can be capturing guests, décor, etcetera.
3. What is their style?
In my opinion, your photographer is the most important investment of your wedding day. After everything is over with at the end of your wedding night, your husband (or wife) and your wedding pictures are what you have left to keep. These are the pictures that you will display in your house for a lifetime! You want to make sure that you like the style in which this photographer shoots. There are various styles that photographers have; documentary, classic, modern, dramatic, etcetera. Research these styles and decide what is a good fit for you and your fiancé’s style!
4. Ask to see some of their previous work (including albums)…
It is becoming more and more popular to purchase the rights to your pictures so that you can make your own albums however if you are traditional and want your photographer to make your wedding albums, take a look at the type of work that they do prior to booking them. It’s easy to look at pictures on their website but ask to meet with them in person and have them bring some hard copies of wedding albums that they have done for previous clients. Also, make sure that you CAN get the rights to your pictures if this is important to you so that you can print your own images and make your own albums.
5. Reviews, reviews, reviews!
With modern day technology, it’s easy to find reviews. Check websites like Wedding Wire and The Knot for your vendors. Read reviews and make sure that this vendor has a good rapport with previous clients and other vendors.
